DAVID JEROME AMUNDSON
I joined the US Navy on 27 FEB2007 shortly after graduating high school. Upon signing up I requested a BUD/s contract which was granted. After 2 weeks after completion of boot camp I was transferred to Coronado, CA to Begin the process of becoming a SEAL. From APR07-JUN08 I completed BUD/s (Basic Underwater Demolition School) and SQT (SEAL qualifying Training) being awarded my Trident and relocating to Virginia Beach, VA to join SEAL Team 8. During SQT I completed all requirements to include CQB training, Freefall and static line instruction (30 Jumps upon completion), SERE, and Basic Cold Weather Maritime in Kodiak Alaska.
I Checked in to Seal Team 8 a month after graduation and spent the first 7 years of my career there. During that time, I completed 4 deployments and multiple different courses of continuation training, ensuring my Troops and teams readiness for multiple areas of operation. I have spent my time at team 8 going to many schools during our Pro DEV period, my primary ones include NSW Communications school(Radios), NSW Lead Breacher, JTAC (Joint Terminal attack controller), ROS (Range Safety Officer), HRST Training (Helicopter Infill Technique certified), Dive Supervisor, Combat Emergency Training x4, Demo Driver, O’Neil Rally, Tier 1, Bondurant and Air Drop Load Inspector
Deployments
My first deployment took place in 2010, I was hand selected among my peers to Augment an ODA (U.S. Army Green Beret Team) detachment as a JTAC in Afghanistan. I spent the deployment filling a mission critical role, providing the opportunity for air support while conducting high risk missions and village support operations. During this I also built relations between the two-community’s receiving high praise for the work we did.
My second deployment was to EUCOM(Europe) where my Platoon traveled to multiple partner nations to conduct training and build relations. During this time, I was a Primary Breacher, JTAC and Team Leader which consisted of 4 SEALS. My platoon spent 30 days in Norway conducting cold response which is a collaboration between multiple U.N. nations fulfilling real world missions. We traveled to Greece and the Netherlands, spending time with their units and training their forces. Last we spent 2 weeks with Germanys elite unit trading tactics and capabilities.
My third deployment was to Africa, spending most my time in Uganda training our partner forces there to deploy and combat terrorism in their country along with Somalia. As a Team leader I was in charge of managing multiple SEALS ensuring we meet the mission’s requirements. At the end of the deployment my team was called upon to support the POTUS’s security Detachment in western and Eastern Africa for 1 week prior to coming home.
My fourth deployment was again back to EUCOM spending more time in Norway. I was the senior enlisted advisor for my team while conducting joint training missions in Norway, making final tactical decisions prior to and during all training operations.
After my time at team 8 I was sent to NSWG2 TRADET 2, where I currently reside. While at TD2 I am an essential member of Assaults CQC Instruction. Myself along with a 5-8 SEALs are overall responsible for ensuring the EAST Coast SEAL Teams receive the best and most relevant training in regard to assaulting a structure and completing the mission. Prior to becoming an instructor, I was sent to NITC (Navy Instructor Training Course) to ensure I was qualified to instruct at the capacity required within the Assaults cell.
